Beauty Alert: DAX launches new mineral oil/petroleum free haircare line

More and more companies are creating products that are more friendly to the health of our hair.  For example, remember DAX? When I was a kid that DAX blue/green grease was a staple in our home.

Now, the old company is stepping up to the plate by launching their first line of mineral oil and petroleum free products - DAX ROOTs.

"[Because] Healthy hair begins at the ROOT."

According to the DAX site:   As a continued effort to help our customers achieve healthier hair and scalp, we have created our FIRST Petrolatum and Mineral Oil FREE hair care line. DAX ROOTS was formulated with you in mind. Our vitamin rich, moisturizing, and strengthening ingredients help nourish the hair from root to tip.

DAX ROOTS Olive Cream is a daily leave-in conditioner and styling cream that revitalizes natural moisture, strength and shine. Olive Cream enhances hair softness and reduces breakage; maximizing hair length. Infused with Olive Oil, Sweet Almond Oils, and Mango Butters, hair appears regenerated, rejuvenated and naturally beautiful.

DAX ROOTS Bergamot Butter is a hydrating moisturizer and treatment for your hair. Bergamot Oil has been used for centuries to invigorate, revitalize, and beautify hair. Formulated to add shine and help reduce breakage; enhancing hair length. Its exotic scent will both refresh and relax you. Vitamin and antioxidant rich Shea Butter and Olive Oil quench thirsty hair and help prevent future damage. Soothe your senses and treat your hair with Bergamot Butter.

DAX ROOTS Jojoba Oil is formulated with a vegetable oil base that, unlike petrolatum, absorbs into the hair to help add moisture and shine. Jojoba oil has been used for centuries as a scalp and hair treatment. Similar to the oil our bodies produce, Jojoba Oil adds shine and moisture without leaving it greasy. Infused with other natural conditioners such as coconut oil, castor oil and our customized blend of nourishing oils, you’re on your way to healthier, shinier hair with DAX ROOTS Jojoba Oil.

DAX ROOTS Hair Mayonnaise is a revitalizing deep conditioning treatment, rich in nutrients to help strengthen hair and reduce breakage. Natural oils and emollients enhance shine, soothe dry scalp and help protect hair against free radicals. Feel the difference and treat your hair to luxurious moisture and renewed strength.

Stimulate Hair Growth with Scalp Massages

In my last post, 4 Major Causes  of Hair Breakage I discussed four culprits that play a significant role in hair loss. Now that those causes have been identified, figuring out how to remedy the situation can be a daunting task, especially with the multitude of grow - hair - quick products on the market today, most of which is purely propaganda, in my opinion.

There definitely is hope to growing hair after significant or even minor hair loss.  The basis of this growth rests on restoring and/or reviving the root of the damaged hair follicle with the use of natural ingredients and some simple techniques.

The major challenge in accomplishing the task of stimulating hair growth will be one of patience and consistency.  If you have the wherewithal to master those two habits in addition to the recommendation outlined below, you will be on the road to growing back the hair that was once lost.

Stimulation is good for the hair and scalp

The simple technique that will promote hair growth is really that simple – massaging your scalp on a regular basis.  Often times the simplest techniques yield the most effective results; such is the case with scalp massages.  With your fingertips gently massage your scalp in circular motions.  For a visual, refer to this video.   To reap the benefits of scalp massages, it should be done consistently.  The time intervals and length of time you massage is at your discretion, however in order to benefit from the most effective results it should be done daily.

What the scalp massage does in terms of promoting hair growth is it increases circulation to the scalp and allows blood to flow freely which keeps the follicles soft, nourished, and free of any particles that may be blocking or clogging the follicles.

Scalp Massage + Essential Oils = Hair Orgasm

The use of essential oils and their benefits in treating ailments and illnesses can be traced back to ancient times.  These days the same benefits are evident.  Essentials oils are pretty potent yet lightweight oils that are easily penetrated into the skin.  Therefore using essential oils – especially those that are known to thicken and promote hair can do wonders when used in conjunction with a scalp massage.  Rosemary, Basil, Sage, Lavender, Coconut (just to name a few) are all essential oils with properties that aid in hair growth.
When using essential oils it’s best to dilute with carrier oil in order to prevent any sensitivities or irritations.  Two carrier oils I recommend are Castor and Jojoba oil.  Jojoba Oil makes a great carrier oil because its molecular structure is the closest to sebum - the natural oil that is produced by the sebaceous glands.

Castor oil, though a carrier oil, has hair growth properties as well.  I can attest to this as I’ve used it for the sole intent and purpose of stimulating hair growth in the areas where I suffered hair loss from using extensions.  The areas that were thin have grown out nicely.  I’ve even used it to thicken my eyebrows when growing them out – I know it’s a bit much but it works.

Definitely incorporate scalp massages into your hair routine, it’s so simple to do and requires only a few minutes of your time.    Not only will it allow your hair to grow more freely and more rapidly but it also relieves tension and stress.

Are scalp massages part of your hair care regimen?

Beauty in Words......

I remember when I first read this little 'manifesto' a few months ago over at the Elements of Style and thought about the simplicity of each phrase.  Since then I have it at my desk so I can look to every now and again.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Product Review: 21 Drops Aromatherapy Blends

When life gets hectic often times our body
reacts to these life changes in the form of physical ailments.
Headaches, insomnia, gastro-intestinal problems, etc
are all manifestations of an imbalance in your life or around you (in my opinion).

Back in the day (think our grandparent's generation)
most if not all of these illnesses would be treated with herbs or oils.
Personally, my grandmother's cure for anything is by way of an herbal tea.
Therefore herbs and spices like: peppermint, chamomile, ginger and garlic are staples in my home.

Aromatherapy is also a  practice that has been around for generations,
which has curative properties.
When you inhale essential oils or apply them to the skin they can have many wonderful benefits.
Recently, I tried a particular line of essential oils, called 21drops that has therapeutic benefits.
These essential oils blends are one-hundred percent natural and are effective in counteracting
some of the stresses or negative impacts of having a busy life.

There are 21 blends to choose from hence the name 21 drops.

I recently tried the Equalize blend {lucky #7 above} which is comprised of sandalwood oil, rose flower oil,
and frankincense to name a few.

The oils in this blend are supposed to help stabilize your mood, relax your nerves,
calm your mind, and bring you back to the center.

I'll be honest with you - I did not know what to expect from this product.  I"m very familiar with the positive roles essential oils play in medicine and skin/hair care as I've used and continue to use them in my hair and skin regimens.

But, I had never use them for the sole intent and purpose of aroma therapy.
I went ahead and dabbed a bit of the Equalize blend on my wrist and then took a whiff.

Now in order to explain my experience, I have to pose this question:
Have you ever been congested to the point where you could not breathe thru your nose?

Then you remedy that issue with nose drops or sinus medication.
This is exactly what I experienced once I took a sniff of the oil blend.
I felt as if my sinuses had been cleared, my nasal passages were freed of any obstructions that were in the way of me inhaling properly despite the fact that I was not suffering from any type of respiratory infection.

I didn't feel any different as far as my mood though.
But then again I wasn't keeping tabs on my mood to begin with.
So honestly I can't say if this Equalize blend works to calm your moods when you're feeling moody.

I'll have to try it solely when I'm PMSing to see if it alters my mood then ;)
Actually, there is a blend specific for PMS relief - don't believe me?

Check it out.

Other than that I think the packaging is very cute and
I do apply it on my wrist every once in while just for the aroma.

So how many sniffs of  the Equalize oil blend did it take to find my center?

I'd say 21 drops but the world may never know. ;)

What are your thoughts on aromatherapy?
Have you tried it?

I need some tips on how to create a dramatic eye look similar to this.
If you have any tips let me know or
I'll have to check out some of Tamara's tutorials over on youtube.
She is fabulous in that department.

Anyway.
What do you think of Beyonce's makeup?
Like it? or Loathe it?
